Victor Valley College's Court Reporting Program prepares students to become licensed Certified Shorthand Reporters in the State of California. The Court Reporting Program is a minimum of 2.5 years of study. Speed courses require self-discipline and a high degree of motivation. Court Reporting Students will learn to embark on a dynamic journey into the world of court reporting, where precision meets technology. At Victor Valley College, students will master the art of machine shorthand, developing speed, accuracy, and fluency in transcription. The program emphasizes the critical role of punctuation in capturing spoken word with clarity and fidelity. Students will also gain proficiency in the correct usage and spelling of essential medical and legal terminology, preparing them for real-world scenarios. With hands-on training in realtime writing using Computer-Aided Transcription (CAT) software, graduates will be equipped with the tools and confidence to thrive in today’s fast-paced courtroom and captioning environments.

  • Official/Pro Tempore Reporters- Create a verbatim record in state and federal courts.
  • Deposition Court Reporters-Report depositions in legal offices or via zoom.
  • Hearing Reporter- Report hearings such as worker's compensation board hearings.
  • Live Television Captioners- Provide live captions for news and sports.
  • CART Reporters- Reports in college and high school classrooms for the deaf and/or hard of hearing students.

45 WPM typing certificate (typing test available in building 42 room 1)
No felonies
